Transcriptomics

RNA sequencing & transcriptome analysis services

Measure gene expression or investigate regulatory RNA with an appropriate study design. GSN helps select an RNA sequencing approach and define sample and analysis requirements early.

Decide which RNA you need to investigate

Coding transcriptome, whole transcriptome, and small RNA sequencing answer different questions. A gene-expression RNA-seq library does not automatically replace a dedicated miRNA library. Extraction and library preparation must preserve the RNA classes of interest.

The organism matters as well. For example, bacterial studies require a different review from conventional poly-A mRNA selection. Identify the species, tissue, and RNA target before choosing a service.

Build the study around meaningful comparisons

Define study groups, biological replicates, collection time points, and intended comparisons before sequencing. These details help establish which analyses are appropriate and prevent ambiguity once data arrive.

A difference observed in one sample does not establish biological variability within a group. Where sample numbers are limited, discuss the exploratory purpose and interpretation limits during planning.

Connect RNA quality with the final expression tables

RNA requirements depend on the method and material. Share concentration and integrity profiles when available. FFPE, degraded, or low-input material requires specific review; concentration alone cannot establish suitability.

The agreed scope may include sequencing files, mapping, quantification, and additional analysis. Specify reference versions, annotation, group labels, and statistical contrasts so that the report addresses the research question.

For projects coordinated across institutions or countries, align sample IDs and metadata before dispatch. A consistent sample sheet makes subsequent processing and interpretation easier to trace.

Define your deliverables

  • Sequencing files and product-specific QC
  • Mapping and quantification when selected
  • Differential analysis appropriate to the design
  • Agreed tables, visualizations, and downstream analysis

Included tests and analyses follow the approved quotation for your project.

Common questions

A few useful answers

Can one library cover every type of RNA?

Not necessarily. The RNA target and library method determine what can be measured. Small RNAs such as miRNAs generally require a dedicated approach.

What is the minimum RIN?

Acceptance thresholds depend on the workflow and material. Follow the selected product requirements rather than applying one RIN threshold to every RNA project.

Is differential-expression analysis included?

Differential analysis must be specified in the quotation and reviewed against the study design. Prepare metadata, group labels, replicates, and intended comparisons.
