Sample quality
DNA & RNA quality-control services
Understand the sample before library preparation or sequencing. GSN helps coordinate nucleic-acid measurements and integrity assessment according to the needs of your project.
Quantity and integrity answer different questions
Fluorometric quantification such as Qubit measures nucleic-acid concentration using the selected assay. Integrity methods such as TapeStation provide information about sample condition or fragment-size distribution according to the assay used.
Choose checks based on the decision you need to make. Short-read DNA, long-fragment DNA, and RNA for expression studies may require different combinations of quality parameters.
Interpret QC against the intended application
A single concentration, DIN, or RIN/RINe threshold is not a universal acceptance criterion for every sequencing workflow. Evaluation must consider the material, selected product, and library method.
If samples have been tested previously, share the complete results and measurement date. Remaining volume, elution buffer, extraction method, and storage history help the team understand the current condition of the material.
Agree the measurements and next steps
A QC quotation should identify the tests and the outputs you will receive. Results can support a sequencing-readiness review, further assessment, or a discussion of repeat preparation from new source material.
QC supports decisions; it does not guarantee success at every later stage. When a result does not meet an input criterion, next steps depend on the findings, workflow requirements, and available material.
Use consistent sample IDs on tubes and in the sample list. Before shipment, confirm containers, testing volumes, transport conditions, and the handling of remaining material.
Define your deliverables
- Quantification results for the agreed assay
- Integrity profiles when selected
- A sample-specific results summary
- Discussion of project follow-up requirements
Included tests and analyses follow the approved quotation for your project.
Common questions
A few useful answers
Is a Qubit result sufficient for HiFi sequencing?
Quantity and integrity are different properties. Long-fragment assessment must follow the selected HiFi workflow; concentration alone does not describe every relevant aspect of DNA quality.
Will every sample receive a RIN/RINe or DIN value?
Available indicators depend on the material and assay. Confirm the appropriate method and result format before requesting the test.
Can existing QC results be used?
Existing results can support the initial review. The processing provider may still require incoming QC or additional checks for the selected product and sample condition.
